Course FAQ

HOW LONG IS ONE COURSE?
Courses typically follow a Fall/Spring schedule and last ten to fifteen weeks per semester

HOW LONG IS ONE SESSION?
Sessions are an hour or an hour and a half long, depending on the needs of the course, or what has been decided upon by the parents and student.

HOW FREQUENTLY DO COURSES MEET?
Commonly, courses meet one to two sessions per week for the duration of a semester. The option is available for three or more sessions per week, pending instructor availability.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN HOUR SESSION AND AN HOUR AND A HALF SESSION?
Often, one hour sessions are recommended for younger students, while one and a half hour sessions are recommend for older students. The longer the session, the more in depth it can be and the more time a student can concentrate on their artwork.

HOW ARE GROUP COURSES SCHEDULED?
Courses are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. If a student registers, is accepted, and schedules a course, then that course will be listed on the Calendar. As long as that course is listed as "Open," then other students can join.

HOW DO ONE-ON-ONE COURSES WORK?
One-on-one courses are an option for students who want or could benefit from even more in depth highly individualized instruction, and who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to their art practice.
Please note that the instructor and student will not be alone in an enclosed area. Parents or a trusted individual are required to be in the facility while the student is in session. Each location has comfortable lounging and WiFi. Often the instructor's wife, Snow, is in the studio, and arrangements can be made, pending her availability, so that she is in the studio during a session. This would make it possible for the parent to be elsewhere while his or her child is in session.

WHAT IF A STUDENT DOES NOT REGISTER FOR A ONE-ON-ONE COURSE BUT HE OR SHE IS THE ONLY ONE IN THAT COURSE?
Tuition would be set at the group rate for that student, regardless of whether other students join.

DOES HAMPTONARTS OFFER SUMMER COURSES?
Yes we do! Usually from the beginning of July to the middle of August.

Registration & Admission FAQ

DO RETURNING STUDENTS NEED TO REGISTER AGAIN?
Nope. Just let the instructor know that you are interested in taking more courses.

WHAT IS HAMPTONARTS ACCEPTANCE RATE?
It is understood upfront that students need to have an interest in the arts and an eagerness to learn. For students who meet that criteria, admittance is 100%.

WHAT KIND OF STUDENT ARTWORK SAMPLES ARE ACCEPTED FOR THE ADMISSION PROCESS?
There are no specific guidelines. Any artwork that the student or parents deem meaningful can be shown - finished work, sketches, doodles; the more the merrier. Images of the original art pieces are acceptable as well.

Tuition FAQ

WHICH COURSES ARE “MATERIAL INTENSIVE” AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TUITION TO BE FOR THOSE COURSES?
The materials needed for courses vary depending on the content of the course. The courses most likely needing the full $10 addition to tuition would be courses using oil and watercolor paints or clay for sculpting and pottery. Courses where there is not much need for extensive materials, such as drawing, the tuition would most likely be the base rate.

IS THERE A SIBLING DISCOUNT?
Yes! Check near the top of the Tuition page in the Special Discount section.
